Patti Bosket Picks Bronze

Patti Bosket, au naturel, is an interior and wedding designer. She creates warm, comfortable designs using natural elements. Recently she came across one of our Melange rugs on Instagram and knew it would fit perfectly in a room she was designing.

Where are is the Melange rug now? Where in the world? What sort of room?

The rug is in a Northwest rustic home in Leavenworth, Washington. It is in a hallway lined with a collage wall of a local artists’ relief prints, drawings, sketches, and watercolors of local birds.

How did you pick these colors for the rug needed in this room?

I was looking for touches of turquoise to add to the room, and the combination of the native American influence and the earth tone colors of blacks, browns, and turquoise on this rug grounded the floor perfectly.

How does living in Washington inspire your design style?

I was born and raised in Washington, and the elements of nature have always been my inspiration. I love to bring the outdoors in when designing with clients.

How to work with Green

Tiger Eye, Deep Green on the left

Tiger Eye, Deep Green on the left

Green can be neutral. A client requested we combine the green an taupe colors of the top left Tiger Eye with a  Creswell Charcoal. The result, a group of subtle options - see below.

The first 2 options make the pattern bold so we went for a more tonal group for Option 3. It's all about the neutral to green proportion and coming up with the prettiest combo.

Another example is this new Mosaic sample below. It's got this great dark green accent yarn but still reads neutral. In a full size rug, the Mosaic "tiles" would appear to be different colors, depending on which warp yarns are on top at the time.

And we can always count on Sheila Hicks for inspiration. That pop of turquoise makes it sing.

I wish we could do something more like this but tapestry weaving takes a long time.

Ocean's Wake

New Texture.

I've been wanting to expand beyond the standard colors of cotton that we use for the warp (vertical yarns). We've created a couple of new patterns that use wool for the warp, a combination of thin white and thick dark grey natural. It gives a great texture to the background color group. This one is called Ocean's Wake.

With this weave structure, a bit of the pattern color shows up in the background. You can see this more clearly in the stripe version below. When the triangle is turquoise, the background shape has a little turquoise in it.

If we wanted to get rid of that effect, we could make long floats on the back. But I think it's part of the charm.
