Sophisticated Runners Add Dazzle

We just finished a couple of runners that are Blink Cinder. Blink pattern is really great for adding some crazy colorful colors to a neutral base. We try to work in a pop of red wherever we can.

Here’s Angela weaving one of the runners. She weaves a few rows (picks) of neutral and then a pick of the “dots”. The computer in the background is set to the pattern so when she works the foot pedal it just rotates to the next combination of harnesses and lifted warp yarns.

The finished runners have a subtle, random pattern. Sometimes the red dots dominate, sometimes black, sometimes neutral so the pattern will disappear in patches.

New Texture.

I've been wanting to expand beyond the standard colors of cotton that we use for the warp (vertical yarns). We've created a couple of new patterns that use wool for the warp, a combination of thin white and thick dark grey natural. It gives a great texture to the background color group. This one is called Ocean's Wake.

With this weave structure, a bit of the pattern color shows up in the background. You can see this more clearly in the stripe version below. When the triangle is turquoise, the background shape has a little turquoise in it.

If we wanted to get rid of that effect, we could make long floats on the back. But I think it's part of the charm.

Why not Ombre?

Amy Tyson

Our Seattle showroom, Michael Folks, came to us with a Lark Textile Design sample that our predecessor Janet had designed when she owned the looms. We created a couple of new color options to match the style of her original rag rug cutting.  The client wanted some rich colors to go with their floral fabric. It was a bit of a challenge to strategize a method to make the ombre colors line up but it turned out great.

This project was a joy to execute!
